Luxury Yoga and Mindfulness retreat, south west France

A decadent and historic six-night escape to the rolling countryside of south west France. We are taking exclusive hire of a gorgeous ancient chateau, nestling in 100 acres of hills and woodland. There are ten en-suite rooms, beautifully blending tradition and contemporary design, together with amazing separate inside and outside yoga spaces, and a lovely heated outdoor pool. Twice daily yoga and mindfulness meditation classes (apart from on one day) for all levels will be interspersed with organic local cooking, and, of course, time to rest and breathe. This retreat will be all about slowing down, doing less, and letting go of 'to do' lists and rushing around. :)

Why this retreat?

In a nutshell

Yoga and Walking holiday, Chataux venue, South-West France

It’s taken a while to find our perfect retreat in this gorgeous corner of rural South West France. We think you’ll agree it has been worth the wait. This meticulously restored seventeenth century Chateau nestles in 100 acres of wonderful gardens woodland, hills and meadows. There is a total absence of road noise, neighbours and ambient light pollution.

Along with the private outdoor swimming pool, there are two fabulous, dedicated yoga/meditation spaces: a stunning specially converted barn and a large outdoor platform overlooking the grounds and pool. The entire area is secluded and blissfully tranquil. Inside, there are ten well-spaced, individually designed en-suite bedrooms, with peaceful views to the gardens or pool.

We are taking exclusive hire of the Chateau and grounds for this special luxury Yoga and Mindfulness retreat, in anticipation of a group of just 10-15 guests, with a mix of ages, nationalities, and those travelling alone, or with a companion.

We will be offering a relaxed schedule of yoga and mindfulness for all levels of experience (including complete beginners), fine local food and plenty of free time for swimming, walking and resting. Please see the Fast Facts box, ‘A typical day’, for more detail on what to expect on a daily basis.

Our host accommodation

The bedrooms at the Chateau - our yoga and walking holiday in france
The Chateau beautifully balances tradition with contemporary design. The ten en-suite bedrooms are all different in style and feel, split between the main house and the characterful Pigeonnier.

Along with all the outside space, common areas include two light, beautifully presented living rooms for relaxing or chatting and an original panelled dining room. We have a long outdoor table for al fresco meals.

The Pigeonnier, which overlooks the swimming pool, has a character all of its own. Retaining the high standard of accommodation in the main building, it houses two of the ten bedrooms and boasts tall, lovely large windows and its own private lounge and kitchen.

Please note: bedrooms are all different in character and features, some with baths, some with showers, and a few with both. We have divided the rooms into two broad categories, pricing the smaller rooms (with standard, rather than extra-large beds) at a lower rate. Please see the Fast Facts boxes for more detail.

Within these two categories, rooms will be allocated at random, and we regret we cannot fulfill special requests for a bath or shower. Each bedroom comes with a hairdryer and iPad/iPhone docking station.

The yoga and meditation classes

Yoga in the studio.
On every day apart from day four, when there will be  a complete break from classes, we will run yoga and mindfulness classes twice-daily, for 90 minutes each. There will also be a lovely guided silent walk each morning.

Weather depending, we'll enjoy these sessions either on the outdoor garden platform or in the dedicated yoga studio. Mats are provided.

Each morning class will be Mindful Hatha Flow Yoga, tailored for all levels of experience, from beginners to the more experienced. Evening sessions will be a calming blend of Gentle Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation. Our teacher for this trip is Lucia Cockcroft, an experienced retreat teacher with a decade of experience teaching Meditation and Yoga.

Foodie treats: what to expect

The kitchen
We love France and French food and the menu on this retreat will be decidedly local and French in favour, though with a healthy vegetarian twist!

We'll enjoy local cheeses, olives and (if you wish) wine, with the three delicious meals a day, which are lovingly prepared the host venue's talented local chef.

The chef family also owns a small vineyard and so provides a great opportunity to experience some of the local wines.

We regret that we will not be able to cater for strict gluten or dairy-free diets on this retreat.

Our teacher

Lucia Cockcroft is our teacher on this retreat in the South-West of France
Lucia Cockcroft, Satvada's co-founder, will be your yoga teacher on this trip. Lucia has been teaching yoga and mindfulness meditation for ten years, and has studied with some of the world's leading teachers. She teaches a slow, deep, Mindful Flow class in the morning, and a meditative gentle class (with Mindfulness) in the evenings.

In line with Satvada's ethos, the yoga will be accessible to everyone and tailored for all levels, including complete beginners to yoga.

Experienced yoga practitioners will be challenged, but should expect the movement to be presented in a way that is meditative rather than acrobatic.
