Expect outstanding, plentiful, mainly organic food, sourced from the owners' gardens, lovingly prepared to one of the family members - a talented chef!

In a nutshell

We love this part of Croatia for many reasons: the sparkling, clear seas; the outstanding quality of the fresh foodie produce; the unspoiled olive groves and pine forests; the warmth of the people.

Our lovely retreat villas, the ever-popular setting for our Croatia retreats, nestle near a quiet pebble beach, on the lovely island of Brac (an easy hour's ferry ride from Split).

The larger villa - with infinity pool, and huge decking/terrace areas with sea views - boasts six luxury en-suite guest rooms. 

On some retreats we also take a nearby private villa, owned by the same family, with its own swimming pool. 

This charming villa houses three further bedrooms, full of local charm and character. 

Our Croatian retreats tend to attract many solo travellers, and are especially friendly and personal in feel. Due to the popularity with solo guests, this retreats are generally small, averaging around ten guests.

These retreats offer a balance of twice-daily yoga and meditation classes, gentle guided walks from the door, outstanding local food, and plenty of free time for the beach, catching up on reading or exploring the lovely nearby towns and villages, including the island's capital, lovely Supetar (which can be reached via a lovely inland walk from the villas).

On one day, we will arrange an optional trip to an ancient monastery, enjoying a packed lunch en route. Guests joining this excursion will also visit the highest point of the Island, with panoramic views of the Croatian coast.

Our private Croatian villas are built in traditional stone style, with a spacious, contemporary interior, terraces and a small garden sprinkled with olive and citrus trees.

Both have private swimming pools - the larger villa boasts an infinity swimming pool with views to the sea, and a huge alfresco area equipped with sun beds and long, vine-covered table for al fresco dining.

Two of the bedrooms in the main retreat villa boast sea views (please note: we cannot guarantee sea view rooms; these are allocated based on final retreat numbers and time of booking).

Bedrooms are beautifully decorated and furnished, with en-suite bathrooms in the main villa.

The second retreat villa is approximately 10 minutes walk - slightly uphill - through the village. Traditionally, a family home,and owned by the same family as the larger venue, it has been renovated a high standard. With just three bedrooms, it is full of character and tradition, and boasts its own private swimming pool. 

Yoga and meditation classes

During this retreat, you will enjoy a twice-daily 90-minute yoga and meditation class, taken outside, on one of the villa's large terraces (weather permitting), with their sea views.

The morning class will be mindful vinyasa flow yoga, with different options given for varying levels of experience.

Each evening session will be a stress-busting combination of gentle yoga (including calming Restorative Yoga), yin and mindfulness meditation.

In Vikki's May retreat, the powerful practice of yoga nidra - a deep form of guided relaxation and meditation - will form part of the evening sessions. 

Guided walking

The guided walking on this retreat is easy and gentle. The main two walks start and end at the villa and guide you through surrounding villages and local olive groves.

The gentle hikes are suitable for all levels of fitness and can be adapted to the requirements of the group.

There is more walking, and also a car journey, for those who opt to take the day-trip to Brac's fascinating ancient monastery. A packed lunch will be included for everyone on this day. 

Foodie treats: what to expect

Our groups always tell us that meal-times - enjoyed by the pool when possible - are one of the highlights of these retreats!

Our cook for the week - a family member of the villa owners - spent many years as a chef at a local restaurant he ran.

We hope you will agree the taste, presentation, love and care poured into the cooking, twinned with the freshness of the raw ingredients, makes for a consistently wonderful dining experience!

Most vegetables are sourced from the owners' wonderful gardens (shown above), so are naturally organic and sizzling with colour and freshness. All meals are included in the cost.

Amanda Houston: leading our September 2019 Croatia retreat

Our friendly and talented teacher, Amanda Houston has a passion for all-things yoga. She teaches regular Friday night yin workshops at our Chelmsford-based studio, Yoga at the Mill and is passionate about leading yoga in a fun and accessible way. 

Sarah teaches a mindful vinyasa flow for the morning sessions, and a blend of gentle and restorative and yin yoga, with meditation, for the evenings.

Due to the popularity of this retreat, we have arranged additional accommodation in a nearby private villa, ten minutes' walk (slightly uphill) through the village. 

This charming villa, owned by the same family and once a traditional village home, has been renovated to a high specification and comes complete with private swimming pool. It has three bedrooms, one of which is en-suite.

Suitable for:

Many of our guests are relatively new to yoga, and/or looking to come away on a restful break, where activities and food are arranged, without any expectation of acrobatic ability! This said, experienced yoga practitioners are welcome, and classes will be tailored to all levels.

We host a high proportion of solo travellers who are drawn by the promise of a friendly, like-minded group of guests, yet with a structure that allows plenty of time for alone-time.

We arrange a group transfer for guests arriving on the recommend flights. Transfers cost approx 400 Kuna return. This includes all taxi ferry transfers. If you would like to take an alternative flight, transfer arrangements can be made. However, this is approx 400 Kuna per way + ferry costs

Amazing company and delightful scenery

Couldn't be happier
Having spent time looking for a relaxed holiday suitable for a solo traveller, I couldn't be happier that I picked the Croatian retreat. The villa was beautiful and the other guests (of all ages and abilities) were welcoming and friendly. We were all wonderfully looked after - not least in terms of the plentiful and delicious vegetarian food! Some great walks, exploring parts of the island we wouldn't have found on our own, were arranged for us so we didn't have to worry about anything except turning up with the right footwear.

The daily yoga sessions were rejuvenating in the mornings, setting us up for the day, and relaxing and meditative in the evenings, ready for dinner and wine or simply a nap by the pool. I liked the teacher's encouraging approach, helping us all go further in our practice, no matter how experienced or new to yoga we were. I've recommended Satvada to friends and am already planning my next holiday with them. I know I'll be well looked after and come home feeling refreshed and with a new enthusiasm for my yoga classes.
