Following on from the success of our highly regarded Mindfulness for Wellbeing Weekends, we are delighted to present our new Mindfulness Taster Weekends, set in a luxury boutique mansion house in rural Norfolk. Perfect if you have heard about mindfulness and would like to immerse yourself in a small group introductory retreat weekend, without compromising on luxury, and within a schedule that allows plenty of time for rest and relaxation. We'll be spoilt with delicious vegetarian cooking, seamlessly provided by a team caterers we have been working with for some years. :)

Why this retreat?

In a nutshell



We are tremendously excited to have discovered this gorgeous manor farm, sitting on its own in open Norfolk countryside. It's difficult to imagine a more perfect setting for mindfulness and stepping out of daily routine: surrounded by fields, this lovingly restored house is spread over four floors. It boasts some jaw-dropping features, including an 80 sq metre light-filled conservatory – the setting for our practice sessions – and a seven-metre banquet table (fit for royalty!), where we'll be enjoying our home-cooked meals.

In contrast to many meditation weekends, where the setting is basic, and a certain level of mucking in is expected, this long weekend will offer a luxurious, therapeutic environment as a framework within which to learn some life-long meditation tools. You'll stay in one of eight plush bedrooms, some (but not all) of which boast en-suite bathrooms. Those without en-suites share one bathroom for two bedrooms.

The daily schedule we provide balances practice with free time. Each full day of the retreat, we will offer four or five 30-45 minute periods of formal meditation, sprinkled with time to do your own thing – whether that's to take a walk in the surrounding countryside, sink into a roll-top bath or catch up on reading in the gardens or one of the two beautiful lounge rooms.

Our host Georgian manor house has been meticulously restored by its current owners, who have blended striking period features with impressively swish contemporary touches, including underfloor heating, powered by a biomass wood pellet boiler. 

Eight large bedrooms, two of which are en-suite, boast six-foot super-king beds that can be split into two good-d single beds. The rooms and bathrooms come equipped with luxury toiletries, fluffy towels and fine linen.

There is space in abundance here, especially for a group that we anticipate being no larger than ten guests. Arranged over four floors, the first floor houses two living rooms, decked with comfy sofas. The large, open-plan kitchen and dining room boasts an enormous 16th century table.

A large walled garden backs onto open countryside, so plenty more lounging spots to be found al fresco! We love everything about this house – and especially the spacious meditation room, with its floor-to-ceiling windows and views straight out to the garden.

Foodie treats: what to expect

Our fabulous team of chefs will rustle up delicious vegetarian and vegan meals over the course of the retreat. We'll enjoy three plentiful meals a day, where all the cooking, clearing away and washing up will be taken care of!

Our caterers have been looking after our Mindfulness for Well-being guests for the last two years, and we can be relied up to deliver wholesome but tasty home-cooked food that's healthy, but occasionally naughty. :). With advance notice, dietary requirements can be catered for.

For breakfast, expect free range eggs with wholemeal or rye toast, muesli and yoghurt, washed down with coffee, tea or herbal tea. Lunch is typically home-made soup, perhaps butternut squash or sweet potato with a lovingly presented side salad. Dinner is two courses – favourites are generous home-cooked vegetarian shepherd's pie and sticky toffee pudding for desert!

Our teachers


Lucia Cockroft - mindfulness and yoga teacher
This retreat will be led by Lucia Cockcroft. Lucia is a co-founder of Satvada retreats and sister organisation, Yoga At The Mill, a highly regarded yoga and mindfulness studio in Chelmsford, Essex.

Lucia has a long-standing yoga and meditation practice. She has been teaching yoga and meditation for ten years, and is currently studying for an MSc in Mindfulness Based Approaches at the University of Bangor - one of the few internationally-recognised pathways for mindfulness teachers.

She is privileged to count Jon Kabat-Zinn, Christina Feldman, John Peacock and Thich Nhat Hanh as amongst her meditation teachers - having attended retreats or training events with these wonderful teachers.

Lucia has a special interest in mindfulness for therapeutic application – for stress reduction, health and well-being.

Both beginners and experienced meditators. Beginners to meditation or mindfulness should be willing to engage in a period of silence (as detailed on schedule).

Review:

A beautiful calm informal occasion
I experienced my first Retreat with Satvada (in fact my first ever retreat) in January 2016 in Norfolk, a beautiful, calm, informal occasion. The venue is instantly welcoming and has an amazing studio with very efficient underfloor heating and a lovely view out on to the grounds.

The weekend was so well organised as everything ran smoothly and all sessions were optional (because of this I attended every one) - from gentle mindful movement to calming restorative yoga.

I can thoroughly recommend a weekend retreat as it helped me achieve total relaxation, and I particularly enjoyed the extended period of silence. Although I’m not vegetarian, I truly enjoyed all the food on offer and the vast selection of teas and coffee..
